Teaching Theory / Methodology

You have to crawl before you walk. You have to walk before you run. Here, we build our strikers with a particular method at the Queen’s Dojo. The first and most important tool that we have is communication. It doesn’t matter if you come in with zero or ample experience.

There is learning from both sides that are taking place. We take understanding you with the utmost seriousness. Our coaching cues, language, and movement breakdown are unique to us as much as your movement is to you.

Everyone chooses to participate in martial arts for a variety of reasons. Some prefer it to have fun and learn something new, whether it be for fitness, competition, or self-defense. Whatever the reason for your journey, our goal is to make you proficient and technically sound and push you past your so-called limits.

Competition is never required. We consider ourselves something other than a cardio boxing/kickboxing gym. Our goal is to teach the arts in a way that connects the mind and body. You might have thought you were coming in to be aimless and hit stuff hard and sloppy, but you’ll come out crisp, violent, and technical with an understanding and appreciation of clean movement.

There are 60 years of cumulative experience between our three coaches. But our methods, unlike most schools, are cohesive. All of our classes’ curricula build off of our core foundation. Our goal is to minimize damage while creating the most damage possible.

Hopefully, you’ll never have to utilize it for self-defense, but being fluent and having the knowledge to be a weapon is necessary. We’ve taken the time to understand techniques and collaborate as a unit. We are confident in our methodology and even more confident in taking anyone’s skills and understanding how to enhance their base.

Our methodology starts from the ground up—foundation over flash, less ego, more work. No matter your goals, you can be confident; we’ll ensure you’re ready.
